Job: Police Officer (Florida Certified)

An employee at this level must have completed the basic recruit training at the Police Academy and possess current certification from the State of Florida as a Law Enforcement Officer as described under Chapter 943.10(1), Florida Statutes (F.S.). Quality of performance is reviewed constantly by supervisors. Work involves responsibility for rapid and efficient performance of specialized duties under normal and emergency conditions, and may involve threats to personal safety and/or life. Work is normally performed under the supervision of a supervisory officer; however, a Police Officer is frequently required to use independent judgment and discretion.

All Police Department applicants must submit a completed Background Investigation Questionnaire by the closing date. Incomplete questionnaires will not be considered. Failure to submit a Background Questionnaire will be grounds for disqualification. An FCIC/NCIC criminal history and driving record check of all applicants shall be conducted as part of the application process. Any applicant who does not meet CJSTC or Police Department standards shall not be eligible for further consideration.

Failure to meet any of the below minimum requirements shall be cause for your application to be rejected for non-compliance with requirements:

* Be at least twenty-one (21) years of age.

* Be a citizen of the United States.

* Have graduated from an accredited high school or have obtained certificate or equivalent as determined by Florida Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission.

* Possess current Florida Law Enforcement Officer Certification.

* Have successfully completed the swimming and physical agility tests at the Criminal Justice Institute (CJI) at Broward Community College (BCC) and/or CJS of Palm Beach Community College. Such testing must be completed prior to turning in your application. The physical agility exam result is valid for six (6) months from the date taken. The swimming test result is valid for life. All applicants must have completed the physical agility test within six (6) months of submitting an application. Applicants must contact the CJI prior to application to verify which tests they are required to take.

* Have a good driving record and a current State of Florida driver's license.

* Be in good physical condition as determined by a medical exam provided by a licensed physician hired by the City.

* Be able to meet the vision requirements pursuant to CJSTC standards.

* Be of good moral character, as defined by CJSTC.

* Not have committed a felony or a misdemeanor involving "moral turpitude" as the term is defined by law and not have been released or discharged under any other than honorable conditions from any of the Armed Forces of the United States.

* Must accurately and fully complete the application and documents submitted for hire.

* Must pass a drug screen test.

* Be a person who has not sold, offered for sale, or induced or attempted to induce any other person in the use of illegal drugs.
* Successfully pass the psychological exam, background check, and CVSA.

Eligibility Criteria: An eligibility list, which shall be valid for a maximum of six months, shall be formed based on applicants that meet the minimum requirements and successfully complete the multi-tasking assessment. Qualified veterans shall be afforded preference in accordance with Chapter 295, Florida Statutes. Candidates on the eligibility list will be considered for each vacancy.
