Profile: College Automotive Program

College Automotive Program

Cap_1

The automotive service industry has come a long way!  The high-tech career field has gone from basic mechanics in the early 1970's to a highly-skilled technician field in the 21st century.  Technicians today are expected to have an understanding of mathematics, science, communication skills, and strong analytical skills.

The days of the "shade-tree" mechanic performing repairs on vehicles are gone.  Open the hood of any Chrysler vehicle and you will find a very high-tech, complex machine.  This technological change in our vehicles has created a demand for "qualified technicians" that can repair complex vehicles.

The CAP Program is designed to develop "future service specialists" for our Chrysler dealers.  And with the demand for quality technicians at an all time high, now is the perfect time to enter this exciting and financially rewarding career.

If you are ready to accept this challenge, please contact Sheridan Technical Center today to find out how you can become a part of this exciting and challenging career.

What Is CAP?
The College Automotive Program (CAP) is a nationwide effort to train and employ the industry's best automotive technicians.

CAP Is A Superior Automotive Education
Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge believes in the value of trained technicians.  We have worked closely with colleges to design a relevant curriculum.  Upon completion of the program, students earn an associate's degree in Automotive Service Technology (or similar).

CAP Is Paid On-the-job Training
CAP provides valuable internship experience.  Along with classroom instruction, CAP offers on-site training at sponsoring dealerships under the direction of a mentor technician.  Students rotate class time and internship until fulfilling the requirements of an associate's degree.

CAP Student Schedule
Students must attend STC twenty hours a week (12:30 PM to 5:30 PM) in eight week blocks.  During this time students also attend an academic class one night a week at a South Florida Community College.  Students usually work twenty-five hours a week at their CAP dealership during the class term.  Students who need college prep courses will be required to attend class an additional night a week until completed.  The following eight weeks students will work at their CAP dealership for about forty hours a week, usually under the supervision of a Master Technician.  The student is responsible for documenting this work experience as part of the program.
