Blog Post: What is a diamond blade?

I didnt know either until I joined the management team at Diamond TEC (www.diamondtecblades.com). When I first heard the company name I thought of diamond jewelry. After all, the company name is Diamond Tec right? Well, not exactly. The Diamond in Diamond Tec stands for the man made diamonds used to impregnate otherwise normal looking saw blades so they can cut super hard material such as concrete, marble , granite, stone and tile.
A diamond blade is a circular steel disc with a diamond bearing edge. Diamond blades don't really cut like a knife, rather they grind. To the naked eye it looks like the material being worked is being cut but under a microscope the grinding action is revealed. As the diamonds in the saw blade do their magic the diamonds are used up and sluffed away. New diamonds take their place and so on. This process continues until all the diamonds are used up. At the point the blade is discarded and a new blade is used for the next cutting job. A typical diamond blade is 12" or 14" in diameter and .125MM thick. Diamond blades come in many types and sizes ranging from 4" diameter to 72" in diameter! A 14" blade usually sells for $189.90 to $289.90 while a 72" diameter blade can cost upwards of $10,000. for just one! Since a diamond blade sales professional earns 40% of the net profit on all sales made, commission checks at Diamond TEC range from really good to unbelievable. One of my newest reps took home $4800 in her very first month in the business. Some of the seasoned veterans are earning twice that much. Can you say "Hello good life"? Preston Coffer 6-16-09
