Blog Post: Staying connected after the HR Florida Conference

The year 2008 has been a year of celebrations for the HR Community. This week I attended the 30th Annual HR Florida Conference and Expo in Orlando, Florida. With over 1,500 people attending the event, the conference provided a perfect venue for sharing of best practices, networking and of course, earn re-certification credits

I have actively participated in the state conference over the past three years and to my surprise, this year I saw more than ever an abundance of sessions on how to use technology to build a strong employment brand, how to leverage the use of social networking sites, and of course, all the legal aspects surrounding privacy in the cyber world. In fact, the HR Florida Council site recently created its very own LinkedIn user group. I spent some time exploring the user groups and to my surprise there are so many opportunities to stay connected, share information and get to know other colleagues in your area. Needless to say, using LinkedIn is a great way to stay connected after the HR Florida Conference.

This Holiday weekend may be the perfect time to explore the site, get connected and join relevant groups that will impact your career - from HR Groups in your filed, local SHRM Chapters, to alumni groups. What a great tool to stay connected!

Representing over 14,000 individual members, the HR Florida State Council is the state affiliate for the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM.)

If you missed the conference this year, visit the HR Florida Conference site for a glimpse of the speakers. By now the presentations are probably uploaded on the site as well. Human resources professionals can also gain the knowledge, credit hours and strengthen their local network by joining the local SHRM Chapter.
