Event: Champions of Workplace Learning

The Fort Lauderdale Chapter of ASTD invites you to join us on Thursday, December 10, 2009 as we recognize outstanding achievement in workplace learning and employee development. This fun, exciting, and information-filled celebration is part of ASTD Employee Learning Week (December 7th – 11th, 2009).

The celebration will provide opportunities for you to:

Learn what local organizations have done to successfully promote employee learning

Hear from leaders in the community about the value of employee learning and development

Network and share best practices with colleagues in workplace learning and performance

The growing skills gap requires organizations to develop a highly skilled workforce. Employee Learning Week is the perfect opportunity for your organization to get involved and highlight your commitment to learning and development.

The chapter is seeking to recognize organizations with workplace learning and performance Best Practices. We encourage you to share the way you promote employee learning in your organization, link training to organizational strategies, and link training to performance improvement outcomes. All nominees will be recognized at the December 10th celebration. In addition, special award levels of Gold, Silver, and Bronze will be presented for the top three Best Practices nominees!

Tony Bingham, a strategic leader with broad-based business, financial, operational, and technical management expertise, is the President and Chief Executive Officer of the American Society for Training & Development (ASTD). ASTD is the world’s largest association dedicated to workplace learning and performance professionals. ASTD’s 70,000 members and associates work in thousands of organizations across many industries in more than 100 countries.

Mr. Bingham joined ASTD in 2001 as Chief Operating Officer / Chief Information Officer where he was responsible for leading business operations. He was the architect behind a financial turnaround, improved customer service, faster content development, new vehicles for information delivery, overhauling ASTD’s technical infrastructure, and enhancing the Society’s online presence and customer experience.

In addition to overseeing the operational side of the business, Mr. Bingham led the development of strategic partnerships with leading industry organizations and publications. For example: a relationship with Google™ provides ASTD Website visitors with enhanced search capabilities; an agreement with Amazon.com provides shoppers with access to the “ASTD Training Shelf” and more than 100 ASTD Press publications; collaboration with the Independent Consultants Association (ICA) will provide a joint membership offering and resource-sharing opportunities for ASTD and ICA members; and, cooperation with the American Management Association provided a special AMA membership offering in recognition of ASTD’s first-ever Employee Learning Day in 2004.

Before joining ASTD, Mr. Bingham served as the Senior Vice President, Technology and Operations for Britannica.com, where he was responsible for the technology and infrastructure required to operate the digital side of Encyclopædia Britannica, Britannica.com, and its affiliated sites. Additionally, he was responsible for enterprise customer service.
